ALBERT (BERT) GEORGE FLEURY Peacefully, on December 12, 2005, at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, Bert passed away at the age of 89. Bert was predeceased by Theresa, his loving wife of 50 years; and his brother Frank. Surviving his loss are his sons, Carl (Shirley), Mark (Cathy) and Rodger (friend Joanne); grandchildren, Melissa (Richard Delbridge), Melanie, Michael, Chris (Nicole) and Shannon (Todd Krebs); great-grandchildren, Jessica and Bailey (Delbridge), Jeremy (Fisher), Carter and Ella (Fleury), Branson and Kailee (Krebs); also to mourn the loss is his sister Yvonne (Deshayes) of Treherne; and brother Hector (Dorothy) of Selkirk, MB; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bert was born July 10, 1916, on the farm homestead. He attended Poplar Heights School, two and one-half miles from home. Bert and Theresa were married on June 26, 1948, in Winnipeg and spent their lives on the homestead farm, raising their three boys, milking cows and grain farming. They lived a hard life but Bert was not afraid of hard work. As most farmers of his age, his early years of farming saw him standing behind a team of horses....to his most recent years of driving behind a team of 300 horses in the comfort of a John Deere 8760 4-WD. Dad rarely left the area except to visit relatives as a day trip. He was most content in the tractor on the field where he spent much of his time during the spring, summer and fall. At the age of 75 he was happy to truck grain to the feed mills in Winnipeg and would leave the yard at 4:30 a.m. to beat the government employees. He was the combine operator and until his early 80s, had little in the way of relief drivers - he pretty much was our combine king. When he wasn't on the field in a tractor or combine, he was in his truck, driving the province, picking up parts needed by the boys. Grandpa Bert will best be remembered on the highways and roads in the area, driving his 1996 blue GMC 1/2 ton truck at a maximum of 50 km! He enjoyed going on road patrol, checking out the field conditions and drainage, the progress of the crops, cattle in pasture, and the new equipment in the neighbour's yard. Not much was missed by his eagle eye, and after his daily visits to the Marquette coffee shop, he kept track of the changes in his world. Dad's family would be proud for all who knew him to consider themselves his honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the charity of your choice. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St., Stonewall. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Eustache Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the St. Eustache Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Meadow Lea Hall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
