Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLARRY ZITZELSBERGER July 10, 1937 - December 11, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Laurence Zitzelsberger beloved husband and father. Peacefully, Larry passed away in his sleep on December 11, 2005 at the age of 68 at Riverview Health Centre. Dad worked for the Manitoba Telephone System for 40 years. Throughout his career he held numerous positions and made many lifelong friends. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers and also volunteered his time at numerous places in the community. Dad took pleasure in nature and the great outdoors. Hunting, fishing, boating, camping and the cabin at Red Rock Lake (Zitz's Place) were all loves of his life. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling around the world and making plans for their next adventure. They had many good times and laughs at line, pattern and square dancing. Dad was a sports enthusiast; he especially looked forward to Friday morning golf games with the boys. Mom and Dad's most recent past time was the computer. Many hours were spent e-mailing, surfing the web, cursing and continually learning about their new toy. Dad cherished spending time with family and friends, tinkering in the garage and the yard. He was known for his smile and ability to make you laugh. Dad was kind hearted with a great sense of humour and always willing to lend a helping hand. Dad will be deeply missed by the love of his life of 43 years, Cathy; children, Christine (Richard), Robert; cousin Theo of Edmonton; nieces and nephews, Louise (Dave and James), Lianne (Michael), Hilde (Otto), Anton (Michelle) all of Ontario, relations in Germany, as well as, many other family members and friends. Dad was predeceased by his father (Ludwig), mother (Anna), brother (Anton) and sister-in-law (Helen). The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nursing and health care staff at Health Sciences Centre and Riverview Health Centre. Their compassion and loving care were greatly appreciated. According to his wishes, Dad will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. I worked indirectly with Larry at MTS back in the 1980's when I was based in Thompson. I always respected and appreciated his calm and insightful nature. This was particularly my observation while spending many hours working with him on a 1st contract negotiation about 1983. He was a wonderful man, and obviously will be deeply missed by his family and those of us who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.
