KRISTJAN ARMEL GUTTORMSSON Tragically, our Kris passed away on November 30, 2005, in Vancouver, BC, at the age of 42. Kris was predeceased by his father Thor and will be forever and lovingly remembered by his mother Joan; his brother Peter; nephews, Desmond and Eli, their mother Morgan Mackenzie; his sister Salin; niece Halla and nephew Stefan, and their father John Bertrand. Kris was born on April 6, 1963, and was aptly given the second name of Armel, in honour of his maternal grandfather, C.F. Slim Armel Greene. Following his graduation from Kelvin High School in 1981, Kris spent a year at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Music. His Bachelor of Arts was obtained in 1988 from the University of Manitoba, with a double major in English and Political Science and in 1991, Kris received his Canadian Securities Institute Certificate, with honours. He was also a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Kris' professional career began in Winnipeg with Investors Group Financial Services in corporate communications and then in Vancouver, as a Regional Office Supervisor. While in Vancouver, an opportunity arose for Kris to become involved in a new venture, Welcome To Search Engine Inc., a business directory and e-commerce solution company. From it, the company CityXpress evolved, where Kris was employed as its Corporate Communications Contact, until his demise. As a young boy and well into his teens, Kris was active in many sports: hockey, golf, soccer, golf, skiing, golf, spongie, golf, and at the family cottage in Loni Beach, Kris also enjoyed swimming, golf, windsurfing, golf, sailing and. . . more golf. More recently, he was infatuated with exotic cooking and gardening. Kris was not only a gentleman, but also a gentle man in many respects. He had eyes for art and ears for music, seeing and hearing that which would escape most. Beyond mere appreciation, Kris' talents were seen in his sketches and scratchboard works. Most passionately of all, his musical composition and piano playing gifts shone through his band, Dockspiders. Perhaps one of Kris' finest and best known attributes was his wit - he was a lexicon lover and rarely missed an occasion to use his offbeat and erudite sense of humour. The loss of Kris is immeasurable, and we cannot help but think of what might have been - nevertheless, we find some comfort in what was. A memorial service has been held in Vancouver and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kris' memory to a charity of choice. In Winnipeg, the service will be held on Saturday, December 17 at the Masonic Memorial Temple, 420 Corydon Ave., at 1:30 p.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
