DOROTHY SELCH It is with deep sorrow and sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy, on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. Born in Beausejour on June 22, 1921, daughter of Olga and Gustav Stebbe, she was predeceased by Art, her husband of 59 years; and her sisters, Edna and Eleanor; and brothers, Richard, Ralph, George and Leonard. She is survived and lovingly missed by her brother Larry Stebbe (Ann); her children, Sandra Phoenix (David), Ron (Jan), Eleanor Parent, Lorraine Hagborg, Connie Lindhardsen-Smith (Ron Smith), Donna Peluk (Gord), Robert (Pam). Lasting memories of a vibrant, endearing, and spirited grandmother and great-grandmother will be cherished by her 15 grandchildren, Allan, Sean and Shannon Phoenix; Lesley, Debbie and Lindsey Selch; Krystyna and Dom Parent; Brandy Hagborg; Ken and Dana Lindhardsen; Chris and Tim Peluk; Katie and Erik Selch; and her four great-grandchildren, Brendon Selch, Chloe Falco, Aurora and Kai Johnson. Married in 1943, Mom and Dad operated a dairy farm until 1961, when Dorothy and her sister Edna opened the Dor-Ed Drive-In restaurant. Amazingly, while raising seven children during these busy times, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and ceramics. She skillfully created many beautiful mementos for her children and grandchildren and still found time to enjoy all-night canasta games and regular bingo outings. Music was another passion for Mom. She began playing the organ at Zion Lutheran Church as a young woman and continued for many years to come. Her family fondly remembers Saturday night hymn practices on the old pump organ. Throughout their lives together, Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling to visit friends, relatives and children, the highlight of their travels being a trip to Europe. The family would like to thank the staff at Stony Plains in Beausejour and St. Norbert Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, for the excellent care Mom received. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Beausejour with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, December 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, and at the church prior to the service. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
