Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID CHARLES WAKEHAM August 9, 1938 - December 13, 2005 Peacefully at his residence at the age of 67, David passed away. He was predeceased by his father James (1989) and his mother Hazel (1994). David is survived by his son James (Debbie), grandson Jayden of Victoria, daughter Susan (Wayne Ursel), granddaughter Miranda and grandson Kieran of Wpg. He is also survived by his sister Bonnie Zoricic of Wpg. David was born in Wpg. He had a difficult childhood and left home at the age of 16. As a young man he worked as a machinist at Bay Bronze and Canadian Bronze where he became Chief Inspector of aircrafts. He married Patricia Bagot at the age of 20 and started a family. As his family grew up he enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, and club hockey. He and his family enjoyed many summers at Albert Beach, boating, water-skiing, campfires, and Saturday night poker games. David worked for many years in various sales positions. Many would say he was a born salesman. He always had something to sell: coins, photographs, antiques, air conditioners in the summer, and fur coats in the winter. You name it, he could sell it. David worked for Rowntree MacIntosh chocolates, and at that time, he was known by the neighborhood children as the Candyman. It was while working for Rowntree that he began his battle with mental illness. It was his dream to return working in the sales industry however, his illness always prevailed. David also worked for 10 years as a superintendent for MHA and most recently he enjoyed working as a proctor for the WRHA. He spent his senior years volunteering for the CNIB and CMHA. David spent most of his adult life in recovery from his mental illness. Many thanks to the Grace Hospital staff in Psychiatry: 1 North, LAN Clinic, and COPE. Special thanks to Sharry MacIntosh for her never ending support over the years. Also thank you to Dr. Mysore and Dr. Armstrong for their continued support and care of David. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation Department of Psychiatry. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held December 16, 2005 1:00 p.m in the chapel of VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME, 220 Hespeler Ave. You're finally free now Dad, Rest in Peace. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy 668-3151
