GHISLAINE LACERTE Ghislaine was born on August 5, 1929 in St. Boniface, MB surrounded by parents, grand-parents, uncles and aunts who cherished her. She was predeceased by her parents Judge Henri Lacerte (1968), Jeanne (Lavoie) (1970) and her only sibling, Pierre (1957). Left to mourn her death are her loyal friend and companion, Lucille Blanchette, her Lavoie cousins, namely Michelle, Pauline, Marc, Jeannine, Alyette, Jean and her faithful and devoted friends, Eveline Chales, Lorraine Lariviere and Cecile Remillard-Beaudry. She attended St. Joseph's Academy for all her schooling, leaving after 2nd year University to enter the teaching order of the Sisters of Holy Names of Jesus and Mary where she remained until 1972. The greater part of her teaching career was with the St. Boniface School Division, either at St. Joseph's Academy or at Louis Riel Collegiate. She was Department Head of Francais before branching off into counselling. She also taught at l'Ecole du Sacre-Coeur, St. Mary's Academy and in Ste Agathe, MB. Windsor Park Collegiate and College Beliveau. First and foremost Ghislaine taught students. The subject matter came next. Ghislaine graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA, BEd, and MEd in guidance and counselling. She was an exceptionally good listener and caring person with a great sense of humour. Her teaching colleagues and her students recognized Ghislaine as a soft-spoken, kind, witty and engaging person. She enjoyed being a team player. She also had a very adventurous side to her personality. She had a zest for life and its beauty. Her concerns for the poor, the suffering and destitute were uppermost in her mind throughout her life. She dedicated her retirement years to service, especially to women victims of violence. With Reseau Action Femmes Inc., she lobbied the provincial government side by side with the Women's Directorate of Wpg. She was part of the Canadian delegation that attended the 1987 World Congress of Women in Moscow. It was an inspirational experience for her. Ghislaine was quick to thank people. As her friend, I do it in our names thanking the many physicians, nurses and aides who ministered to her needs at Foyer Valade. The entire staff showed compassion, devotion and loving care to sustain Ghislaine and me for the past six years. A very special thank-you to Jeanne La Riviere, Danielle Wookey, Rita Sanden, Lorraine Lariviere, Eveline Chales and to the relatives, friends and former students for visiting, praying and enquiring about Ghislaine regularly. Your moral support was greatly appreciated. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Les Amis de Valade, Inc., 185 Despins, Wpg.
