Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURA ILENE KUCERA (nee ERVEN) Accidentally, on December 13, 2005, Laura Ilene Kucera (nee Erven), beloved mother of Tommy and Karen (John Bate); grandmother to Allison and Devon. Laura was born May 19, 1921 near Dinsmore, Saskatchewan. She worked in Montreal for Northern Electric during the war years. Afterwards, she moved to Winnipeg and worked for the City Planning Department. There she met and later married Frank Kucera (who passed away in 1992), and became a wonderful mother to their two children. A kind and caring person, Laura had a keen sense of humour and a great laugh. Even after going blind, her eyes could twinkle. She took a lively interest in the world around her and loved discussions on politics, philosophy, arts and sciences. An adoring and adored grandmother, Laura will be sorely missed by Allison and Devon Bate. Left to mourn her passing is her immediate family, her nieces and nephews and their families, and friends in Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. We will miss you, Mum and Grandma. You are in our hearts forever. Thank you to Alice, Peter, and Don Froese for their caring and assistance to Laura in her time of crisis, to the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services, and to the nurses and doctors at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Laura's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Children's Hospital Research Foundation. That wonderful, harmonious family of four, namely Frank, Laura, Tommy, and Karen, left a life-long lasting impression on me. Now, 40+ years later, I still cherish those memories. Those times were less hurried, with a real quality of life, before that even became a buzzword. Thank you to all four of you! - Posted by: Hartmut Sager (Friend from long ago) on: Feb 28, 2012

We send our deepest sympathy to the family, especially Tommy and Karen. Your mother and your father were very special people. We regret that we cannot attend the service as we have been spending our winters in Florida. Sincerely, Elsie and Nelson. - Posted by: Nelson & Elsie Walker (Friend) on: Dec 16, 2005
