JANET LITHGOW KING (nee JENNIE MCPHERSON) On Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, Jennie passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years. She is survived by daughter Nancy Janet MacDonald and her husband Donald MacDonald, and beloved grandchildren, James Leslie, and Marcie Ann and husband Cory Epp, her daughter Margie Ann King and husband David Shaw, all of Winnipeg, MB. Jennie is also survived by her nephew James Leslie King of Kitchener, ON. and his children Adam Tyler of Australia and Justin Riley of Scotland. Predeceased by her husband Leslie Thomas in 1987; her sister Winnie King in 1993; her brother-in-law Reginald Alfred King in 1986; and her parents, James McPherson in 1955 and Lilias McPherson in1960. Jennie was born in Winnipeg, May 11, 1914 and spent her early years in Scotland. Upon the family's return to Winnipeg, she attended Principal Sparling School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She and Les made their home in Norwood until their retirement years when they then moved to the Wellington crescent area. More recently Jennie resided at Meadowood Manor. Jennie was happiest when either visiting or entertaining family and in earlier years there was always the aroma of cookies or cakes baking in the oven. Church was a very important part of Jennie's life and during the years she was a member of St. Paul's United, Norwood United, Crescent Fort Rouge, and Meadowood Manor Fellowship. She was a longtime member of Dame Ishbel Camp, Sons of Scotland. Jennie was employed as an executive secretary initially with Canadian Rogers Ltd. and later with Consolidated Bathurst. A special thank you to the nurses, home care workers and friends at Meadowood Manor for their compassion and kindness to Jennie. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomsom Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jennie's memory to a charity of their choice.
