Date of Passing: Dec 16, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETHEL MARION LAPORTE With sadness we announce the passing of Marion LaPorte on December 16, 2005 just 1 day after the celebration of her 88th birthday at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Ulphie (Ben) LaPorte of Inwood; she is survived by three sons: John and wife Gloria (Wityshyn), children Derek (Angela) and Nicole; Paul and wife Mette (Olsen), children Nicholas and Sina and Tom and wife Bev (Motoska), children Leah and Kristie; and also a nephew, Ed (Diane) Bowles, of Thunder Bay and two nieces, Pat Kiteley (Jeff) of Kemptville, ON and June Savage of Gabriola Island, B.C. Marion was predeceased by her parents Alf and Ethel Bowles of Thunder Bay, ON as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Betty Bowles also of Thunder Bay and a niece Leona Thompson of Sioux Narrows, ON. Ben and Marion were married in Ft. William, ON on March 25, 1942 where Ben was working in the Canada Car factory building fighter aircraft and Marion was working as a recently graduated nurse looking after injured soldiers and prisoners-of-war. They started their family there but moved back to Inwood, MB in 1946 where Ben would operate his service station until his retirement. Marion was a valued member of the community providing her nursing skills when needed and her support to the Women's Institute's functions for many years. After Ben's passing she moved into Winnipeg where she resided until her move to the St. Norbert PCH. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their kind attention to Mom during her stay there. Special thank you to Chooi the Recreational Coordinator. There were very few crafts or sing-alongs which Mom did not join in on. A service honoring her life will be held at the Teulon United Church, 3rd Avenue at 2nd Street, Teulon at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22 with interment at the Inwood Cemetery afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marion's name may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board of your choice. Funeral arrangements by Mackenzie Funeral Home.
