NELSON ANDREW GILCHRIST October 1, 1911 - December 15, 2005 Nelson passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2005. He was predeceased by his loving wife Emma; his devoted daughter Jackie; his sister Helen (Bill) Beckstead; and brothers, Jack (Tillie) and Harold. He is survived by his son Barry (Lynda); daughter Judy (Ronald) Smith; son-in-law David Hurma; his grandchildren, Byron, James, Shannon, Jelena and Laura; sister-in-law Ethel Gilchrist; and by Emma's sister Alma (Harry) Paulsen; and many extended family members. Nels was the fourth child of Andrew and Ella Gilchrist and grew up on the family farm near Ridgeville, MB. He ran a successful turkey ranching operation there for many years before moving his family to Fort Richmond in 1967. His and Emma's home on Fordham Bay was the focal point of Gilchrist (and extended) family life and activities for the next 30 years. In 1998 Nels suffered a stroke and moved, with Emma, to Pembina Place Personal Care Home where he developed many close friendships with staff and residents. Nelson contributed to the communities in which he lived as a school trustee, a church councilman and as a volunteer. Above all, he was a patient, kind and charitable man, a loving and sensitive husband and father. He will be greatly missed, and respectfully and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 200 Dalhousie Dr. with Rev. Ed Mitchler officiating. A family interment will take place at Fredensthal Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
