ARMSTRONG It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Norman William Armstrong, aged 82, peacefully at Grace Hospital on Sunday, December 18, 2005. Norman, the fifth child of John and Janet Armstrong, was born June 15, 1923 near the town Sinclair in Western Manitoba. At the age of 16 in 1939 he attended Brandon College and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 1942. He went on to attend Queens University and earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1946 winning prizes in economics. Norman began working for James Richardson Sons in Winnipeg in 1947 and a year later for the subsidiary company Pioneer Grain. When he retired in 1985 after 38 years of service he held the positions of Vice President (finance) and Secretary Treasurer of Pioneer. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Grain Insurance Corporation. Norman married Harlaine in 1955. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in June of 2005. Norman enjoyed reading, travelling, gardening, golf, curling and spending time at the family cottage at Victoria Beach, MB. He was a longtime member of Westworth United Church and participated in the men's club AOTS. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Even when he had his own health problems he thought of others and went to Tuxedo villa to visit and play cribbage. Norman took pleasure in and was very proud of his family. Norman is survived by his wife Harlaine, his siblings, Grace, Jean and David, his children, Hugh (Marianne), Elaine and David (Linda) and his grandchildren, Chloe, Tessa, Simon, Olive, Matthew, Zane, Grace and Mia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother John. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at Grace Hospital for the comfort and special care they provided to Norman during his time there. According to Norman's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave. at Lanark on Wednesday, December 21 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation in Norman's name may be made to a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
