MARY SUDERMAN (nee WIENS) The family of Mary Suderman is sad to announce her peaceful passing at the age of 95 years on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Donwood Manor with her family by her side. Mary was predeceased by her dear husband John earlier this year, but is survived by her children, Herb and Karin, Eleanor and Barry, Marlene and Marvin; and brother Peter and Tina Wiens. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly and Shawn, Heather and Greg, Tiffany and David, Jared and Heather, Kristin and Galen; and great-grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah, Sophia, Colby, India, Tomas, Evan, Indra, Bethany and Cayden. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Sarah, Dick, Abe and Martha; her half-sisters Anna and Tina; and her great-grandson Nathan. Mary was born on November 21, 1910 in Russia and immigrated to Canada with her mother Sara and siblings in 1930. Their first home in Canada was in Griswold, MB but after only a week in Canada and speaking no English, Mary along with her eldest sister and half-sister found work in Winnipeg as domestics. Here she learned the language and way of life of her new home country. In 1934, Mary's family moved to North Kildonan where she lived the remaining 71 years of her life. It was here she met a good friend of her brother's, John Suderman whom she married on August 24, 1941. Together they made a life and raised their family. Mary was characterized by an indomitable spirit, which never boisterous or bold, shaped her family in numerous ways. She created a home that was filled with the smells of her cooking and baking, a garden abundant with vegetables and beautiful flowers, and an ambience about her that spoke of optimism and resilience. Ever-blooming, Mary embraced new challenges as opportunities which reflected her creativity and determination to make the best with what she was presented to the very last week of her life. Mary's family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Donwood Manor who lovingly cared for Mary and John for over four years. Donations may be made in their honour, to Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, 171 Donwood Drive, R2G 0V9. Viewing will take place on Friday, December 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at McIvor Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave. with interment following at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. The memorial service will be held Friday, December 23 at 11:00 a.m. at McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church with a fellowship luncheon to follow. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 339-5555
