Born: Nov 20, 1942
Date of Passing: Dec 17, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRED CHUHIE November 20, 1942 - December 17, 2005 It is with great sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Fred Chuhie (Grandpa Freddie), father of Daniel (Lisa) and grandson Nicholas, and Pamela (Darrin) Nemec and the late Robert Chuhie; brother of Tony (Sharon), Doreen (Gerry) Zalusky and Donna (Maurice); and numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Chuhie of Libau. Fred raised his family with his ex-wife, Louise Gagne-Chuhie, for 23 years on a small farm in Libau, where he still resided. He enjoyed his garden and yard, a variety of animals, visits from friends, tinkering around the yard, and loved his Ukrainian music. Fred enjoyed his work at Birds Hill Park for 40 years. He started there as a grass cutter and cutting trees for roads. He did some summer firefighting over the years as well as snowmobile trail maintenance and snow-making for the ski hill. For the past many years, he worked as a machine operator at the park and was depended on to keep the roads and park open. The many large rocks found around Birds Hill Park were provided and placed by Fred because he was the One who knew where the rock stash was. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Church, 6088 Pth 9A, just south of Selkirk, with Fr. Peter Chorney and Pastor Dave Saude officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Poplar Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation, Ste. 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
