JERRY STASIUK It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Jerry Stasiuk, aged 58 years, of Gimli, on December 19, 2005, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Karl and mother Olga, whom he loved dearly. He leaves to cherish his memory, brother Larry (Joan) and sister Sherry (John); nephew and nieces, Jeff (Petrina), Denise (Cameron), Tammy (Kent), Dawn (Evan); 10 great-nieces and nephews. Jerry was born on October 5, 1947, in Gimli where he lived his whole life, leaving school to go to work with his father at around age 13, water well-drilling and working hard for 40 years. There were many times he wanted to quit but he couldn't because drilling was his life and deep down he loved doing it. Taking its toll on his body at times, he never quit until the business was dissolved and even after that he continued to help out with what he was able to do for anyone who called. A great man of simple pleasures, who loved to be around his family and friends, gallivanting around in his truck, listening to his country music, stopping off here and there visiting those he cared about, was Jerry. Playing a few hands of crib and socializing at home was another past time he enjoyed, especially if he skunked you! He had a heart of gold and would do most anything for anyone; all you had to do was ask and his response would always be no problem. His soft heart made it very difficult to say no, he was a sweetheart. One of his greatest joys was his nieces and nephew and their children, seeing them as often as he could. They in turn loved him back by giving him his favourite things at Christmas and birthdays: cakes, cookies and chocolates. He was a kid at heart with a sweet tooth. We're going to miss that lovable mischievous grin and those smiling eyes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, with Pastor Rainie McKinnon officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Arden, Jack Korolyk, Jerry Korolyk, Don Fedorchuk, Karl Woytowich and Carl Kretowski. Special thanks to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Butler and Cathy Coates of CancerCare and the staff at the Gimli Hospital. If friends so desire, donations in Jerry's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Jerry, all these things made you a wonderful spirit, this world is less one kind soul. We all will miss you deeply, your presence enriched our lives and your memories and endless love touched our hearts and will be with us forever. Your kindness made us better people. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
