JERRY SALTEL Peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at the Health Sciences Centre, Jerry passed away at the age of 68 with family by his side after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Jerry was born June 5, 1937, in Winnipeg and enjoyed his years at Mulvey and Gordon Bell High School where he enthusiastically participated in sports and musical productions. He spent most of his working career in the Human Resources, Warehousing and Production fields. Although he enjoyed bowling and playing games, his greatest love was team sports. Jerry served as volunteer coach for a period of 25 years in minor league to AAA boy's hockey, soccer and football in several age groups. It gave him great pleasure to meet his former players as the years flew by. The nicknames Stubbs, Uncle Salty, Big Jer, Gramps and Bubbles always brought a smile to his face. Jerry, always a loving husband and devoted father and grandpa, loved meeting people and could always find something to talk about. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him but our memories will always warm our hearts. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years Margaret; and beloved children, Denise (Brian) Baker and Doug (Diana) Saltel; six grandchildren, Melissa, Don, Allison, Jack, Anne and Kate; brothers, Ron (Paulette), Dennis (Eileen); and sister Marilyn Rousseau; sisters-in-law, Emily Perkins, Dorothy Mozdzen, Mary Caha, Rose (Nick) Gregresh, Verna (Wally) Tibelius; several nieces and nephews and their families; as well as lifelong friends, Bob (Terri) Stremich, Bob (Doreen) McNabb and many relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents and several family members. To all our family and friends, thank you for your expressions of love and caring when we needed it most. You gave Jerry happiness just by being there for him, also a special thank you to Dr. Frank Albi for his continuous help and compassionate care. Much appreciation to the nurses at Victoria Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and care giving. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Viewing will take place prior to service. Cremation and interment to follow at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Saltel, Don Baker, Mark Saltel, Dan Saltel, Bob Stremich and Bob McNabb. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. • Hello. My name is Mike Rolling. I am 37 years old and live and teach school in Brandon. Jerry coached me on the St. James Canadians when I was 16 years old and he was a very special man. He was a positive influence in my life and while saddened at his passing, his name brought a smile to my face as I enjoyed having him as my coach. We all knew that Jerry cared for us as people and not just as players. My prayers are with Jerry and his entire family. Take care, Mike . - Posted by: Mike Rolling (Friend) on: Dec 25, 2005
