WILLIAM (BILL) G. STARR

STARR After a lengthy and courageous battle due to complications of diabetes, Bill went into a peaceful sleep and into the arms of God on Saturday, December 24, 2005, at the age of 79 years. Bill was born on February 20, 1926, at St. Peter's/Dynever, Selkirk, MB. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Charlotte Starr; brothers, Robert and Rueben; and his sisters, Martha Irvine, Edna Grisdale and Gladys Nielsen; a daughter Christine; as well as two nieces, Arlene Michaud and Lenora (Millie) Orvis whom he thought of as sisters. Bill leaves to mourn his passing nine children, Sharon (Bruce) Lang, Jo-Anne, Earl, Barry, Marilyn (Mel) Sauve, Robert, Yvonne, Gerald and Richard; Alice Fidler, mother of his children; granddaughters, Diane, Vanessa, Rebecca, Shannon, Heather, Mandy and Natasha; grandsons, Brian, Steven, Michael, Jason, Dale, Kyle and Keoni. Bill also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren and two foster great-grandchildren. Dad/Grandpa/Papa loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply and was always so happy to see them. He always kept treats just in case some of those kids happened to drop by. Bill also leaves a half-brother Clifford (Oscar) Flett; special nephew Charlie Grisdale; and a Goddaughter Isabel Kent; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his friends. Bill worked as a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg in his younger years: Booth Fisheries, Dominion Bridge, Bodnar Fisheries, Freshwater Fish Marketing Corp. and later at Selkirk Parks and Rec. before retiring in 1988. A memorial service and viewing will take place on Thursday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbart's Funeral Home. Cremation will take place immediately after the service, and interment of ashes with his parents will take place at a later date at the Old St. Peter's Stone Church. A viewing will be held prior to service. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Keoni, Kyle, Dale, Jason, Michael, Jordan, Steven and Brian.
