HENRY KRUEGER Peacefully on December 26, 2005, Henry Krueger, our husband, father and grandfather, passed away at home in Altona, MB. Henry was predeceased by his father, Jacob; his mother, Katherine and his brother, Jacob. He is survived by his wife, Mary and their children, Richard, Ingrid (Mark), Hank (Marion), Marlene (Mark, Maranda and Marina) and Robert, and grandchildren, Pamela, Amy and Milan. Henry was born in 1929 in Altona and lived his entire life here. He started his own business, Krueger's Men's Wear at age 16, a clothing and shoe store that was a fixture of the Altona and surrounding area for almost 40 years. Thereafter, he ran an air-quality testing and mitigation business. Henry met Mary while she worked for MTS in Altona and this year they celebrated 50 years together. Over the years, Henry enjoyed travelling with his family throughout Canada and the United States, including yearly southern sojourns to Arizona for a number of years. In his later years, he enjoyed just driving through the local countryside with Mary to share their passion for birding. Both in his younger years and again in recent years, Henry was very active in the chess community. For years he played as part of the German Chess Club and more recently, he was one of the co-founders of the Pembina Triangle Chess Club that organized weekly chess games and tournaments locally and in Winnipeg. A service to celebrate Henry's life will be held at the Bergthaler Church, 117 2nd Street NW in Altona at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30. In Henry's memory, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
