JOSEPH JOHN SLEVA It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph John Sleva on December 25, 2005 in Selkirk, MB. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 60 years, Minnie; and his children, Joey (Anna) and Cathi (Brian); grandchildren, Cory, and his father Ted Bos, Michael and Natalie. He also leaves to mourn his brothers, Tom, Ben, Walter and John, and his sister Clara. He was predeceased by his parents Anastasia and John, and by sisters Carrie and Betty and brothers Frank and Steve. Joe was born in Brightstone, Manitoba on February 13, 1919 and moved to the family farm in Stead, Manitoba where he grew up with his nine siblings. He left home at 16 and began his career in construction. He lived in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver where his two children were born. Joe and Minnie finally settled in Mississauga to raise their family. Joe returned to his childhood home in Gull Lake where he enjoyed retirement living on the family homestead. Joe's last three years were spent in Tudor House in Selkirk, where he was well cared for and where he made many close friendships. Joe was a very special person who made an impression on everyone he met. His interests involved gardening, nature, telling stories and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and share his expertise and he looked forward to family gatherings at Gull Lake. Joe will be sadly missed for his kindness, generosity and gentle nature. A celebration of his life will be held on January 4, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. I wish my hands could reach the sky, I'd gather a fistful of stars, And hand them to you on a blanket of blue, With white cloud lace, And the smile on your face Would be all that is needed. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
