CHARLES VICTOR WILSON Born June 23, 1920, Neelin, MB. Charlie succumbed to acute leukemia December 29, 2005. He leaves to mourn his wife Jane and children, Barbara (Bill), Robert (Susan) and Laura. Also his grandchildren, Tanya, Damon and Noah. He was predeceased by his parents, Humphrey and Madeline Wilson and his siblings, Edith Easton, Winnie Collins, Toby and Bill Wilson. He is survived by his sisters, Madeline Gibson, Vera Turner and Joan Koeppel. Also many nephews and nieces. Raised at the family farm near Neelin, Charlie had many fond memories of growing up in the area. His parents were prairie homesteaders in southwestern Manitoba. He and his brothers were renown impractical jokers and story tellers. Charlie was very close to his sisters and they kept in touch with frequent phone chats, especially in recent years when personal visits became more difficult. Like many of his generation, he served overseas in Belgium and Holland with the Provost Corps during the Second World War. Later in life he used some of these Provost Corps skills commandeering the fall cabbage and cucumber harvest with good friend Ray assisting in sauerkraut and pickle production. Barbara, Robert and Laura were invariably AWOL. He spent all his working years at Manitoba Telephone System. In his retirement, he enjoyed many a long hour gardening. Dad spent his last few years at Lions Manor and made some good friends. The family would like to thank Shirley and Tom for being there for him when he needed them most. The staff at the Deer Lodge Centre were caring and ensured his final days were dignified and peaceful. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, a favourite charity of Dad's. Rest in Peace Dad. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 6, 2006 12:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. (west of perimeter), Winnipeg (204), 885-9715.
