Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY WILHELMINA LAIRD TAYLOR (nee GIBSON) Dorothy Wilhelmina Laird Taylor departed this world on December 27, 2005 from Evergreen House in North Vancouver to be in Heaven with her family that had gone ahead. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on February 15, 1910 to Henry Thomas Laird Gibson and Elizabeth Mary (Plumtree) Gibson. She was the eldest of the family and was predeceased by brothers, William Laird Gibson and John Harold Gibson; and sister Gladys Margaret (Gibson) Marengo. Dorothy was married to William Russell Coates Taylor and left behind three children, Dr. William John Russell Taylor of St. Louis, MO, Daphne Joan (Taylor) (Werner) Bund of North Vancouver, William Arthur Taylor of Winnipeg; and son-in-law Cecil Bund; and daughter-in-law Mary-Lou K. Taylor. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Michael Coates Taylor, Ann Mary Taylor, David Rogers Taylor, William Jon Henry Taylor, William Paul Zachary Taylor, Douglas Raymond Werner Stern, Valerie Anne (Werner) (Habing) Potter, Jay Potter, Lloyd Arthur Werner, Victor John Russell Werner, Pamela (Smith) Werner, Roxy Lynn (Werner)(Nelson) Wright, Stuart Wright, Bobby Robin Werner, Janet (Sketchly) Werner, Mary-Lisa Christine (Taylor) Taylor-Pirogov, Bradley (Piragoff) Taylor-Pirogov, and William John Paul Taylor. Left behind were also at least twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and a large number of great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy raised her family in Winnipeg and after they were grown, joined the work force as a secretary in the Department of Education at the Normal School, School for the Deaf, and in the Robert Fletcher Building, all in Winnipeg. After her retirement, she continued to live in Winnipeg and was an avid golfer, first at Charleswood and then St. Boniface. She attended St. Stephen's Broadway United Church. At 85, she moved to North Vancouver to live with her daughter Joan, and travelled back to Winnipeg for holidays to stay with her son Bill at the family home on Roblin Boulevard. Dorothy was an active person, belonging to bridge clubs, poetry groups, golfing, curling, lawn bowling, bowling, badminton, travelling, enjoying theatre, and volunteering in many forms of church work. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Ave. in Winnipeg. A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, January 7 at Highland United Church in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy has asked that we make a park bench fund to purchase benches in her name to be located in various parks she loved.
