LEANDER ROBERT ZIRK Leander passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 80 years. Leander was born in Stead, MB, the eldest son of Herman and Rosalia on February 3, 1925. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thalberg. On April 18, 1970, Leander was united in marriage to Lilia Lesosky (nee Goodman). As a couple, they became active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Thalberg. Leander loved farming and bush work and continued doing this until his health failed. He enjoyed playing baseball and later took up curling in Bissett. Sports were always important to him. For several years, he coached girls' softball in Beausejour. He enjoyed playing in and later attending the annual Stead ball tournament at Zirk Park, which was the two diamonds on his home property at Stead. Leander was predeceased by his wife Lilia in August 2004, his mother Rosalia in 1979, his sister Wanda Otto in 1980 and his father Herman in 1987. He will be missed by his brothers Waldemar (Lea), Erhart (Clara), Danny (Gloria), his stepdaughters Diana and Carla Lesosky and Gloria Zirk, nephews, nieces and friends. The family gratefully acknowledges the care given to Leander at the Pine Falls Health Complex, especially Sunnywood Personal Care Home and the Dialysis Unit. Thank you also to the medical staff and care team during his last stay at the Health Sciences Centre, G.H. 4 in Winnipeg and Pastor Mark Koenker for his spiritual care. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Thalberg, MB. with Pastor Mark Koenker officiating. Viewing will be held at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Trinity Thalberg Memorial Fund.
