Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH JEFFERSON GOBERT 1904 - 2006 Peacefully, on Sunday, January 1, 2006, at Riverview Health Centre, Edith Gobert passed away at the age of 101 years. Edith, the fourth of six daughters born to Sara Gatley and Robert Jefferson, was raised and lived her life in Manitoba. She attended Cambridge Street School, built by her father and staffed by the Winnipeg School Division, Pine Creek School in Lundar, MB, and Kelvin High School. She attended the Manitoba Agriculture College, now the University of Manitoba, as a student in Home Economics and later worked in the Hartney area for the Duthies, lifelong friends. On April 9, 1928, Edith married George Gobert who was a dairyman (like her father) and served on the St. Vital Council. Edith loved working with cattle and she and George operated the Riverbend Dairy Farm on St. Mary's Road from 1933 to 1970. Edith was a wonderful wife and mother, a great cook and homemaker and a tireless worker. Her door was always open to friends and strangers. She was active in the St. Vital Boys and Girls Calf Club and the Sewing Circle associated with it, prior to and during the early years of the Second World War. Edith was predeceased by her husband George (1975); son Gerry (1999); daughter Helen Frost (2002); sisters, Dr. Dorothy Jefferson (1984), Jean Anderson (1988), Marjorie Gobert of California (2003) and Phyllis Graham (2004). She is survived by her sons, George (Lil) and Wilfred (Irma) Gobert and daughter Phyllis (Gerry) Anseeuw; as well as her sister Edna Hotel of Austin, MB; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. According to Edith's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Special thanks are extended to the Riverview Health Centre staff on C2, for their compassionate care of Edith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edith to Riverview Health Centre Foundation, One Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4, or a charity of one's choice.
