ROSS THOMAS SMITH Peacefully in the comfort and love of his home, on January 1, 2006, Ross Thomas Smith, aged 65 years, of Stonewall, MB (formerly of Winnipeg and Darlingford) passed away, with Sharon by his side. Ross is survived by his best friend, soul mate and wife Sharon Fotty-Smith; his daughter Charisse and Rick Adams of Winnipeg; his son Daryl and Nancy Smith of New Bothwell; and his three grandchildren, Kyah and Jesse Adams, and Ashley Smith. He also leaves to mourn his mother-in-law Winnifred Fotty of Stony Mountain; Sharon's siblings; his namesake uncle Ross (Vivian) Purse of Nanaimo, BC; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Thomas on March 26, 1986, and Elaine on March 25, 2003. Ross was born on August 14, 1940, the only child of Thomas and Elaine Smith. Ross spent the first 12 years of his life at Roland, MB, moving to Darlingford in 1952. Ross farmed in Darlingford, and drove a school bus and truck. In the early 1980s, Ross moved to Winnipeg and continued to drive trucks, then in 1987, Ross started working for Winnipeg Transit, retiring in March 2003. Ross will always be remembered for his whistle, his laugh, and his ability to remember and tell a good joke and how he could make his presence known just by being Ross . It didn't matter if Ross was out locally or anywhere in Canada or the United States, he always ran into someone he knew. Ross had various interests such as breaking broncos, racing snowmobiles, hunting, fishing, scout leader, picking bottles with his quad, feeding all the birds in his yard, helping out his neighbours with their crops, always keeping busy with his yard and garden, attending auction sales, going for coffee to town or to the Sal's in Winnipeg, and the most important, visiting with everyone. Special acknowledgement and thanks to the continued care by Dr. Brian Rumbolt, Dr. S. Parham, Dr. A. Leylek, Dr. Maksymiak, Stonewall District Palliative Homecare Staff, Interlake Pharmacy, family, neighbours, and friends. Honorary pallbearers Don Miskiewicz, Bob Harcus, Rick Harcus, Bernie Driedger, Morley Miller, and Ray Waddingham. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 6, at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall with Reverend Leslie Clark officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southwest District Palliative Care, Box 1282, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0 or to the charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
