WILLIAM MILNE October 29, 1923 - January 1, 2006 Peacefully, after a brief illness, William, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at Concordia Hospital on January 1, 2006 with his family by his side. To remember his life, he leaves his daughters Donna (Les) Despins, Nancy (Tim) Flook and Sandra (Jack) Robertson; his grandchildren, Doug (Jenn), Blair (Shaleen), Neal (Miranda) Despins, Christopher, Andrew, Meaghan Flook and Travis Robertson; also great-grandchildren Trent, Kylie, Rylan and Audrey Despins. William is survived by his sister Sue (Joe) Kellsey; sister-in-law Catherine Milne (Belleville, ON); and an extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces. Bill was born October 29, 1923 in Winnipeg and he married Ruby Grant on August 14, 1948. He was predeceased by his wife Ruby (1996); parents David (1959) and Agnes Milne (1992); sisters, Anne McGeachan and Helen Gibson, brother David Milne; brothers-in-law Sam McGarvie, R. Fern McGeachan, and William Gibson. Dad spent his retirement years living in the city and summers at his trailer in Gimli. He had worked for many years at Imperial Optical making eye glasses and then specialized in the making of contact lenses. Over the years he enjoyed golfing, bowling, curling and family outings. His favourite pastimes were puttering around in his workshop and watching hockey and football on TV. He was a member for many years of Gimli Golf Course, Sons of Scotland, United Scottish and the St. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Concordia Hospital for their support, care and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens with reception to follow. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7.
