BARBARA POCIUK (nee MORRIS) On January 3, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer, Barb passed away while staying at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care ward. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME at 220 Hespeler Avenue. Following the service, family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life luncheon, to be held in the reception room of the Voyage Funeral Home. Barb is survived by Nick, her loving husband of 51 years, her daughters Liz, Susan (Chuck), and Lynn (Danny), her sons Michael (Elaine), Richard and Alan (Shellie), 12 grandchildren Ryan, Chelsea, Meaghan, Katie, Sean, Nicole, Scott, Tanya, Brenton, Stephanie, Ashley and Christopher. She is also survived by her two sisters Lucy (Pete) and Anne (Bert), both of River Hebert, NS, brothers-in-law Steve (Beth) and Bill (Shirley), sisters-in-law Mary and Anne (Ron) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Barb was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Betty Morris of River Hebert, NS. Born September 8, 1934, Barb grew up in River Hebert, NS. She and Nick were members of the RCAF and were married on December 18, 1954. Nick's career moved them to St. Jean, QC; Winnipeg, MB; Marville, France; Trenton, ON; Camp Borden, ON; Saskatoon, SK and Comox, BC, before finally retiring in Winnipeg in 1983. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the compassion, kindness and wonderful care provided by the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital. Their dedication and attention ensured Barb's final days were dignified and peaceful. The family also offers heartfelt thanks to the dedicated home care providers, who demonstrated much needed empathy and support during the holiday season. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barb's memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation Donations, Room D1003, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6.
