E. JEAN OLIN (nee PARRISH) On New Year's Day, January 1, 2006 we lost our mother, grandmother and dear friend Eleanor Jean Olin. Jean, as she was known by those who loved her, was born on February 6, 1927, was predeceased by her husband Harley Olin in 1976, her mother Jean Parrish in 1984 and her father Wilfred Parrish in 1953. She will be greatly missed by her children, Christopher (Australia), his wife Joyce, Derrek (Victoria), his wife Cecelia, Kathy (Grande Prairie), Melissa (Calgary), her fiance Mark; and her grandchildren, Devon, Cory, Serena, Thomas and Kyle. Jean was born in Calgary, AB and spent her formative school years in Winnipeg, MB. As an only child, Jean adored her summers with her many cousins in Winnipeg. When first married (1951), Jean and Harley resided in Calgary, where all four of their children were born. In 1970, they moved to Kelowna, where they made many lifelong friendships and started Telsec, a telephone answering service. In later years, Jean and Harley moved to Victoria, BC, where Jean worked at Sabas Fabric Store. Jean was active as a volunteer for the Commonwealth Games and the Museum of British Columbia. She was passionate about travel, and as a result of her interest in others became active as a host in the peace organization Servas. Jean's huge heart embraced friends all around the world. She is greatly loved and will be sadly missed. A visitation will be held in Victoria at McCall Bros Chapel, Johnson at Vancouver Street, on Thursday, January 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will be having a memorial service at First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Rd., on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. Following the memorial service, please join us for a celebration of life in honour of Mom at Passero's Restaurant, 1102 Yates (at Cook Street). In lieu of flowers, the family (and Mom) would appreciate donations to the United Way in Mom's memory. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.
