HARRY HUSIAK After blessing us with his love and affection, our Gigi left us on January 6, 2006. Extraordinarily hard-working and committed to his family and community, Dad will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by daughter Aileen; son Jim (Diane); grandchildren, Vincent (Jana), Cynthia (Mark) and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Megan and Rylan; siblings, Polly, Anne and Lawrence; brother-in-law Clarence Kell; and sister-in-law Ann Husiak. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Katherine; and siblings, John, Roy, Bill and Marie. Dad was born on March 21, 1914 in Poplarfield, MB, and on June 4, 1938 married Rose Luty (who predeceased him on August 18, 2000). Dad and Mom farmed full time in Poplarfield until 1975, thereafter moving to Winnipeg. He fulfilled a strong belief in his responsibilities to his community by contributing to the development of the Cooperative, Credit Union, New Star School District, Farmer's Union and various community initiatives in Poplarfield. Dad had a passion for politics and was a very active member in the Labour movement, starting with the CCF Party and continuing with the New Democrat Party. His interests were also found in his exceptional memory of distant events some of which can be read in Harry's Memories written in March 2002. Dad's hobby consisted primarily of socializing at every opportunity. He enjoyed sharing his life's experiences and solving the world's problems with both lifelong and recent acquaintances. Dad and Mom's strong desire to travel and acquaint themselves with family members found them twice in Poland, Ukraine and Argentina where they learned of a cousin who had immigrated there. In later years, Cuba became a favourite getaway where Dad would spend most of his time talking to workers at construction sites who remembered Harry from his prior vacations. Dad and Mom enjoyed the activities of the Dufferin, Selkirk and Labour Temple Seniors Clubs as well as 141 Legion. Dad drove his car well into his 90th year and after Mom's passing continued to attend events at those clubs, his residence at St. Mary's The Protectress Villa as well as at Fred Douglas Lodge. The family has graciously declined flowers and requests donations be made to the Manitoba Branch of the Kidney Foundation, 200 - 155 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8. Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance and thanksgiving for Dad's life will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. P. Kuegle, the residents of St. Mary's The Protectress Villa for the hospitality they extended to Dad during his residency, and to the staff and volunteers at Grace Hospice. We ask that you remember this man as a hard-working, caring, unselfish and devoted husband, father, brother and Gigi with a zest for life who did not hesitate to undertake the next challenge. It is impossible for us to fill the void he had left behind. Gigi, we will always miss and love you. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT (MEMORIES FOREVER) CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my Uncle Harry. I have to echo the comment in the obituary about Uncle Harry having a zest for life. I'll always remember his great sense of humour. Every get together would involve new jokes or crazy antics. Whether he was playing Santa or mimicking the Pope at my parents' place in Ottawa, a good laugh was always to be had. I will always have very fond memories of Uncle Harry, and he will be missed dearly. - Posted by: Jim Luty (Family) on: Jan 09, 2006

  • Jim / Diane, We pass on our condolences in the passing of your Father. You should not be sad - as it appears he lived a very long and fruitful life, his Gift to you. No one can give anything greater to their children. CELEBRATE HIS LIFE - That is what he would desire - Posted by: Al & Judy Hamm (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2006
