Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWIN OTTO CARLSON April 1910 - January 2006 It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the age of 95. He leaves to cherish his memory, son Neil (Lynn), grandchildren Neil Carlson Jr., Terri (John Longbottom), Marni (Stan Pascal) along with his great grandchildren, nephews, Torston and Owe Bergland in Sweden and special friend Ella Bergh. He was predeceased by his wife Beda in 1985 and second wife Esther in 1992 as well as many relatives in Sweden. Ed was born in Dalarna, Sweden in 1910 and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1929. He struggled as everyone did during the depression years doing odd jobs. The Augustana Lutheran Church on Logan Avenue was a gathering place for Scandinavians and there he met his future wife, Beda also from Sweden. In 1939 with Beda's help he started his own business Carlson Decorating Co. and in his own words from that time on I never looked back. Ed never forgot his roots and was deeply involved in the Swedish Community. In 1962 he was appointed Honorary Consul for Manitoba and Saskatchewan by the King of Sweden and in this capacity was awarded the Order of the North Star for dedicated service. He was a Shrine member for 53 years and was one of the founding members of the Motor Patrol, also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, the Masonic Lodge, Scandinavian Centre, Lodge Strindberg, Sylvia Recreational Company (Vasalund), Scandinavian Choir and the Winnipeg Executive Association. Ed spent many winters at his home in Palm Springs, CA where golf and good friends were the order of the day. Until his eyesight and hearing failed last year, Ed lived an active and full life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 11 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge Street, Wpg., MB at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Sauer officiating. Private interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined, if friends desire, a contribution may be made to the Swedish Canadian Home, 15-5419 Roblin Blvd. Winnipeg, MB, R3R 0G8 or the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764 Erin St., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 2W4. We will miss you Dad and Grandpa and will always smile when we think of you. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
