WASYL YURCIW (JURCIW) It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather at the age of 83 years on Monday, January 9, 2006, at Concordia Hospital I.C.U. Wasyl leaves to cherish his memory his wife Anne of 57 years; daughter Mary (Orest); grandchildren Michael (Lisaz), Andrew (Carlyn) and Mark (Stacey). Wasyl was born in selo Wolkiwci, rayon Borchiw, oblast Ternopil in 1922. As the Second World War loomed over Ukraine, he was deported at the tender age of 17 to work in a labour camp in Germany. He later enlisted in the British Army, serving in the Transport Division. In 1948, Wasyl met his wife Anne in England where they married and their daughter Mary was born. The young family emigrated to Canada in 1953, settling in Saskatchewan where Wasyl worked on his uncle Sebulski's farm. They later moved to Winnipeg where he worked for the C.P.R. as a tinsmith for 30 years. Wasyl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a cherished friend to all who knew him. He was a man of deep faith who actively served his church. He was proud of his Ukrainian heritage, supporting numerous cultural organizations and causes. Never a day went by when he didn't reflect on his homeland, comparing the temperatures, harvest yields and the beautiful landscape. Our father loved music and one could hear his beautiful voice often times throughout the day. Every day was a new adventure for our father; kayaking at the lake, pursuing enhanced English language skills or taking up some new BIG project around the house. Dad looked forward to family gatherings and cherished any time he could spend with his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy and there were no limits to the unconditional love he had for all of us. He was a gentle and kind spirit who treated everyone he met with respect and compassion. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave., with Father L. Ratushniak, C.Ss. R. officiating. Donations in Wasyl's memory may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, R2W 1T9. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Concordia Hospital, I.C.U., for their compassionate care. We are also grateful to all our friends for their kind wishes, friendship and support. Forever loved, forever missed and forever remembered. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
