ELVENA (VEEN) REESE (HARKNESS)
Date of Passing: Jan 08, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELVENA (VEEN) REESE (nee HARKNESS) On Sunday, January 8, 2006, Mom passed away peacefully at home, with her family present. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her children, Elaine Rogers (David) and their children, Greg (Kathy), Jeff (Tracy) and Janelle (Alan), Judy Lindsay (Fred) and daughter Lorrie (Yvonne) as well as her special little ones, her great-grandchildren, Kieran and Nicholas Rogers, McKenzie and Harrison Rogers, Reese and Mathea Franklin and Lily Rae Prosser. Mom grew up in Starbuck and in 1933 married Dad, Irvin Reese and together they raised three children. Starbuck played a big part in their lives as they were active in everything in the community. She sang in church choirs, worked with church and community committees and her very favourite - curling. One of the teams on which she played third won several trophies in the Provincial Ladies Bonspiels and then went on to become Provincial champs. Mom was a Honorary Life Member of the Starbuck Ladies Curling Club. Up to three weeks before her death, although legally blind, she sat glued to the television for every curling event. It would be hard to know who at the Olympic Trials was more disappointed, Mom or Jeff Stoughton. For 11 years, Mom resided in her apartment on Roblin Boulevard, where she joined in the various activities in the apartment block and life in Winnipeg near her children. The people of Beauchemin Park Place became her new friends. When her health deteriorated their many phone calls, visits and tasty treats constantly lifted her spirits. Veen's funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MB. We were able to fulfil Mom's wish which was to die at home, because of the Roblin Boulevard Medicine Shoppe, CNIB, and the WRHA Palliative Care Program, who provided some of the most wonderful, kind and caring people. At the last, when it was most difficult, they were there for us. We will be eternally grateful. If friends so wish, donations in Mom's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Elvena's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665

We were sorry to hear of Veen's death. Although this is a difficult time for you all, the happy memories of your time with her will be a comfort to you. We are sorry that we are unable to attend Veen's funeral as we are in Texas, but we will be thinking of you. - Posted by: Albert & Joan Olund (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2006
