Edward had countless friends all over the province. There was an endless stream of people who came to see him at the hospital. This show of love and concern meant a lot to him. He was an extremely talented individual who had great people skills. He is well known throughout the province in many different capacities. But, his main passion in life was square dancing. He made many square dance groups, most notable of these being the Champion Square Dancers from Skownan. He was instrumental in bringing square dancing to Winnipeg and other communities throughout Manitoba. He volunteered countless hours of instruction time to the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre where he trained hundreds of adults who came to the weekly dances at the Centre. From this venture, a significant number of square dance groups evolved. He elevated this cultural art form to a level that was championship level. His routines were unique and are still used to this day by square dance groups all over the province. In a tribute to him by the NCI radio program with Yvon Dumont and Kevin Chief, he was dubbed the father of square dancing . Anyone who knew him or was taught by him can have no doubt that this is true. A special surprise party was hosted by the Metis Club for him where the Norman Chief Memorial Square Dancers and the Half Pint square dancers performed in his honour. His granddaughter Mackenzie Guiboche dances with the Half Pints. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers of this special tribute two days before he left us. Edward was overwhelmed by the love and support he felt there. Edward's last place of residence was Norway House. He embraced this community and its' people with his whole heart. The day before he died, he stated his last request to Grand Chief Ron Evans. He stated I want to go to Norway House for one night when I die so that I can show my respect to the people .
