Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter Pam (Jim) Gayowski; son Baden (Alison); grandchildren, Michael Gayowski and Lynn Gayowski; brother-in-law Russell (Elsie) Earl; sister-in-law Irene Earl; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence; parents, Arthur and Flo Edlington, brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Freda Bush; brothers-in-law, Ken Earl, Lloyd Earl, Clifford Earl; and sister-in-law Margaret Earl. Mary was born on July 29, 1923 in Worksop, England. After completing high school she attended teachers' college. Near the end of the Second World War, she met a Canadian soldier, Lawrence Earl, who was serving in England. They were married June 23, 1945 in Worksop, England. Along with many other war brides, she came to Canada to join her new husband in the town of North Portal, SK, where Lawrence was posted as an appraiser for Canada Customs. They lived there for 12 years, raising two children until the family was transferred to Winnipeg in 1957. She then returned to her teaching career working for the Winnipeg School Division for 20 years. Since retiring in 1978, her time was spent mostly with family. She entered Fred Douglas Lodge in 1998 and spent her final years surrounded by a second family of warm, caring people. Mary was a quiet, gentle person who liked to knit, read and do crossword puzzles. She took great delight and pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She always put her family first and will be remembered for her graciousness, kindness and generosity. The family extends special thanks to the extraordinary staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their wonderful care of our mother and grandmother over the past seven and one half years. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K OV7 on Saturday, January 14 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fred Douglas Society Burrows Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2X OB8.
