ERNEST PAUL ZIPP 1928 - 2006 Early Sunday, January 8, 2006 Ernie passed away at St. Boniface Hospital with his loving wife, Averill at his side. Ernie was born December 12, 1928 in Winnipeg. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Averill, and he will always remain in her heart; also, his daughters, Lesley Zipp of Saskatoon and Deana Reimer (Allen); his son Danny Gauld of Calgary; his grandchildren, Sterling, Avery, Grayson, Zachary, Kaedyn, Collin and Kelly; and great-grandchild Baylie. He is also survived and fondly remembered by his loving sister Aileen Fred (Charlie); his mother and father-in-law Gilmour in Vancouver; his sister-in-law Sheila Evans (Garry); numerous nieces and nephews; and his many, many friends, particularly his long term pal, Reg Friend. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Jean. Ernie was raised and educated in Winnipeg, attending Elmwood and Gordon Bell Schools. He graduated in 1945 and spent his working life, first at Dominion Fruit in branches at Winnipeg, Edmonton and Swift Current until 1956. He then returned to Winnipeg and joined Investors Syndicate, later The Investors Group, where he occupied a variety of positions until retirement in 1989. On his retirement, Ernie chose a small private retirement celebration with close associates, rather than the big bash in the cafeteria. I chose to have a small party hoping to avoid giving a speech, but as it turned out, I've had to speak at six small parties laughed Ernie. Ernie was a kind and thoughtful man who enjoyed and appreciated the natural things in life. He enjoyed early morning walks with his best friend Montana, sunsets and the beauty of wind and sun upon the ocean, and he availed himself of these pleasures during his many visits to Hawaii. He had a life long love of golf, being a member of St. Charles Golf Club for over 40 years, where he was universally liked and admired for his sportsmanship and goodwill. He was a keen bridge partner, playing duplicate bridge for many years at Fort Rouge Duplicate Bridge Club, right to the final week of his life. Other interests were gardening and woodworking, where his expert workmanship produced countless fine pieces of furniture and accessories for his home and his friends. He would do this only for love and kindness and not for profit. Following his wish, Ernie has been cremated and there will be no memorial service. Those who wish to commemorate his memory can make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Division or Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter. Special thanks to Dr. Guiness Maharaj, thank you friend. At CancerCare, St. Boniface Unit, Dr. Shojania, Maureen Monczka and staff. Also, 6th Floor West nurses, Chris, Rita, and Debbie. Special thanks to Palliative Care nurse Chris Carlyle, RN. Finally, thank you to St. Boniface emergency room staff on Saturday night. Good Bye Sunshine, you are my best friend, I will miss you. Love Averill.
