JENNIE PASICOV (FOGEL)

JENNIE PASICOV (nee FOGEL) January 15, 1911 - December 29, 2005 Passed away on December 29, 2005 at St. Boniface Hospital after a brief illness, in her 95th year. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jennie was born in Ukraine in 1911 in the village of Belilifka, south of Kiev. After enduring the pogroms, common at that time, she left Ukraine and came to Canada in 1922, at the age of 10 with her mother Ethel to join her father John and live in Winnipeg with her sister and brother. In 1935 she married Herbert Pasicov and settled in Winnipeg. She spent the middle years of her life raising her children Benjamin and Frances and assisting her husband in his work as a furrier. Throughout her life she was known as a devoted wife and mother, always happy and optimistic and always helpful. She was a skilled cook and artist and she excelled at needlecraft and clothing design. In her later years she enjoyed travel, first with her husband and later with her son and daughter-in-law Susan. She travelled to Spain and Israel, to North Africa, Morocco and Egypt, and to France, Holland and Switzerland. In Morocco she attended at a dinner with the Crown Prince. In Egypt she circled the pyramids on horseback and sailed on the Nile. In Israel she explored Masada and motored on the Red Sea. She was a delightful and enthusiastic travel companion. Jennie was predeceased by her sister Freda Fogel who died in 1929 at age 23, her mother Ethel Fogel who died in 1967 at age 79, her father John Fogel who died in 1971 at age 94, and her brother Sam Fogel who died in 1979 at age 67. She was also predeceased by her husband Herbert who died in 1981 at age 71 and her daughter Frances (Karasick) who died in 1990 at age 46. She is survived by her beloved son Dr. Benjamin Pasicov and daughter-in-law Susan (Green) of McLean, Virginia, brothers Harry Fogel (Shelly), and Max Fogel (Eleanor) of Winnipeg, and eight grandchildren; Robert Pasicov (Pilar Rubio) of Falls Church, Virginia, David Pasicov of Fairfax County, Virginia, James Pasicov of Salamanca, Spain, Craig Pasicov, of Falls Church, Virginia, Karen Pasicov of St. Paul, Minnesota, Stephanie Pasicov of New York, Adeena Karasick of New York and Evan Karasick (Stephanie) of Toronto. In addition she leaves three great-grandchildren, Safia Fierra Southey of New York, Daniel Rubio Pasicov of Falls Church, Virginia and Riley Finn Karasick of Toronto. Jennie was interred at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on January 3, 2006 next to her beloved husband Herbert. Officiating at the service was Rabbi Lawrence Pinsker of Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. The family wishes to thank St. Boniface Hospital, its doctors and nurses for the care and comfort they rendered Jennie in her last days.
