LOUISE NELLIE VIOLET GILLET (nee YESTRAU) January 15, 1908 - January 12, 2006 Louise Gillet passed peacefully into God's hands on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at St. Joseph's Residence. Her family mourns her loss but celebrates her long and productive life. Predeceased by her parents, six brothers and her loving husband Adolphe (1966), Louise will be sadly missed by her children, Louise (Brian) Faurschou, Garry (Sally); and her grandchildren, Allan (Ali) and Gavin (Joanne) Faurschou and Ian Gillet. She also leaves her only sister and beloved companion, Emma Thompson as well as many nieces and nephews. Louise was born to Louise and Frank Yestrau in Rosewood, MB, the sixth of eight children. She attended Rosewood School, Lorette Convent and the Winnipeg Normal School, graduating in 1927. She taught in schools in Rosewood, Monominto, East Selkirk (Mayfield) and Sprague. Louise met her future husband when she and Emma needed an accordion player to play at dances and she and Adolphe were married in 1944. After moving to Winnipeg and raising their two children, Louise resumed teaching, at David Livingstone, Alexandra and John M. King Schools, retiring in 1973. She was a wonderful teacher who set high standards for her students, many of whom remained her friends throughout her life. After Adolphe's death in 1966, Louise continued to live in their home on Spence Street until she was 87 years old, enjoying her role as landlady to her tenants, many of whom lived in her home for many years. She moved to Lions Place and enjoyed her nine years there, serving as a peer counsellor. Louise was a longtime member of the Singing Seniors. For over 50 years, she was a member of Young United Church, participating actively into her 90s. She lived in Luther Home for a year and in St. Joseph's Residence for the past two months. Louise was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Grannie was always ready to look after her grandsons and take them for a ride in her red Cutlass. Go, Grannie, go! was the cry from the back seat and she did! Louise had a special gift for making friends, a sense of adventure and zest for life. She enjoyed travelling, especially her trip to Australia to visit her devoted friend, Cavell Caldwell. A celebration of Louise's life will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway on Monday, January 16 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Bruce Faurschou officiating. Interment will take place beside her husband in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Luther Home and St. Joseph's Residence for their loving care for Mother for the past year and a half. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the above facilities, Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St. or St. Joseph's Residence, 1149 Leila Ave. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
