DAVID PETZ On Thursday, January 12, 2006 we lost our father, brother, and son David after a brave battle with Colon Cancer. David will be missed fondly by his three kids, Lauren Sadler (Brent), Kirsten and Brendan. His granddaughter Brenna was his little bear, she will miss her gigga. He also leaves behind his kids mother, Beth; his parents, Flo and Denny; his sisters, Joy-Ann (Bob), and Pat (Peter) and his big little brother Ray. He leaves his nieces and nephews, Hidy (Bruce) and their kids Catherine and Kyle, Heather (Mark), Bryn, Kate, Eric, Graham, Evan and Tana. Also left to mourn is his special cousin Christine, and cousins several times removed Phyllis and Bob. David was born in Wadena, SK, November 27, 1949. He lived in Alberta and Saskatchewan before settling down in Manitoba. He married Beth in 1971 and soon after began attending the University of Winnipeg. David graduated with a Honors in Political Science, and tried various careers before settling with Manitoba Public Insurance, where he worked for 27 years as one of the two well known Dave's. David loved sports. He was an avid athlete, coach, and coordinator. He loved basketball and mountain biking. This year was his first not playing his regular Thursday hockey game with the Jocks. Another favourite pastime was horse racing. Dad made many good friends at the track, and enjoyed every aspect of racing and owning his horses. Dad was a wonderful father, we took many trips as a family and would not see the world as we do today if not for his love of archeology, geography and science. He encouraged us to read and explore, and always to assert our independence. Dad coached us in all sorts of sports and always had time to watch our games and meets. We thank him for all the opportunities he gave to us, no words can express the full extent of his love and all that he has done for us. The family would like to thank all of Dads many friends at MPI, he enjoyed working with you, thank-you for keeping him up to date with the gossip and for giving him so much support. His race track friends meant so much to him, he enjoyed so much his breakfasts at the track and he took great glory in his wins and his horses. Thank-you for all your support through all of this, he loved his week-ends at the farm. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital who helped Dad, and us, through this journey. We also owe great gratitude to his home care nurses, especially Louise. Thank-you for all your care and concern. In memory of David, because he never liked flowers anyway, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. To the Petz family: Your dad and mom, along with myself and my wife Connie went to England together in the 70's. Connie passed away last year with a similar fate. Life took David and Connie on a different journey now. Your dad was always there in friendship, sports, as a fellow worker at MPI, and a fellow Flin Flonner. He was a true friend. I know the feelings you have now are difficult, but his memories will put a smile on your face. - Posted by: Ron Chapen (Friend) on: Jan 14, 2006
