Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH CHRISTENA ARIANO (nee OLMSTEAD) Edith Christena Ariano (Olmstead), passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, January 9, 2006 at the Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win District Health Centre. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward Ariano in March 1998. Edith was born October 23, 1923 in Carberry MB, to William Cowan Olmstead of Ottawa, ON and Helen (Nellie) Gilmore of Old Meldrum, Aberdeen shire Scotland. Edith was raised on the farm at North Cypress with three sisters, Anne (Wallace Blair), Helen (Ted Thompson), Margaret (Alvin Oliver); and a half sister Mabel (John Creighton); and four brothers, John (Ona Bluett), William (Edith Westerburg), Alvan (Merle Lane), and Glen (Marjorie Baldwin). All her brothers and sisters have predeceased her. Once Edith completed her schooling in Carberry, she moved to Winnipeg where she met Edward Ariano. Ed and Edith were married on July 22, 1946 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Winnipeg. They resided for many years at 59 Prince Street in Sioux Lookout and in 1983 they moved to the lake at Cedar Point Drive. Edith is survived by her three children, Tannis Edith (Hugh Williams) of Dryden, Marlene Ann (Rod Mymryk) of Kenora, and Robert (Christiane Raby) of Winnipeg. Edith has seven grandchildren, Jennifer Jean Williams (Brad Pinkerton), Lori Ann Williams (John Stroich), Steven Mymryk (Jessica Stahls), Nadine Ann Mymryk, Justin Edward Mymryk, Phillip Edward Ariano, Danielle Celine Ariano; and great-grandchildren Seth Mymryk, Graham and Carter Pinkerton. She made sure she helped to celebrate all the achievements of her family, whether it was the school plays, birthdays or graduations. Also survived by her brother-in-law Gilbert Ariano (Marge Furlong); sisters-in-law, Patricia Brouilliette, Chris Kondra, Marjory Olmstead; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Ed and Edith were true partners in everything they did. Their first business enterprise was TansMar Plumbing and Heating, they then went into partnership with Don Sanders of Sanders Hardware; they then purchased Fullers Esso Garage and ran the Chrysler dealership until it was sold and Edith and Ed retired. Edith enjoyed her family, baking for the United Church ladies, her birthday gang, bus trips with the seniors, playing cards every Friday night and having visitors. She was a wonderful hostess and friend. She enjoyed china painting and doing and teaching the art of Swedish weaving. Edith enjoyed her travels with Ed. Their first international trip was to Nassau, then they went to Europe enjoying Amsterdam in particular. Next it was off to Florida, then Arizona and best of all she loved Hawaii. Edith would get a dreamy look in her eye when she talked about her trips to the island. I can picture Edith and Ed in Hawaii together now. Visitation and prayers were held at St. Andrews United Church on Thursday, January 12, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. The funeral was held on Friday, January 13, at St. Andrews United Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations can be made to the St. Andrews United church in her memory, through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, Box 1449, Sioux Lookout, ON P8T 1B9.
