Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN HUSKA (nee JOPKA) August 10, 1918 - January 12, 2006 Peacefully with her loving family by her side Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma answered the call of Jesus and returned home to her heavenly kingdom. Leaving to cherish her precious memory are her sons, Walter (Violet), Marshall (Elsie) and daughter Marge (Mursel), grandchildren, Arnold (Cindy), Bernice, Kevin (Adelle), Keith (Donna), Maria (Dennis) Krawec and Dr. Christopher Kluke, great-grandchildren, William, Timothy, Isaiah, stepgreat-granddaughter Jennefer Stewart, and sister-in-law Olga Jopka, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Her parents, John and Mary Jopka, her ever-loving husband Milliam, sisters, Cassie (Nicholas), Bessie (Roy), Anne (Paul), brothers, Steve and Alex predeceased Mom. Mom was born and raised in Ukraina, MB, schooled at Blue River and married Dad at Dry River, MB. Mom and Dad began their passion for shoe, harness and canvass repair business serving their beloved community of Grandview nearly 60 years ago. They had a deep concern for family, church and public. Many a customer would enter the shop and find Mom working faithfully with Dad at all hours of the night. Mom's joy was in her family visits, gardening and in puttering in her back yard flowerbeds. She immensely enjoyed a fiery game of canasta with her canasta friends. She was also a sharp shuffle board and cribbage player and loved a challenging game of checkers. Mom was always a very strong-willed person who sincerely vocalized her opinions so you always knew exactly where you stood with her. Mom was a lifelong member of St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, and received her life membership to the St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada. She served as an auditor of the parish U.C.W.L.C. and co-manager of the parish cemetery for 36 years. Active pallbearers are Mom's grandsons, Arnold, Chris, Kevin, Keith and great-grandsons, William and Timothy. Cross-bearer is her granddaughter Bernice and the Gospel carrier is granddaughter Maria. All in attendance are to consider themselves honorary pallbearers. The family wishes to acknowledge the St. Boniface Hospital emergency staff and Dr. Shah where Mom received the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, the staff on the 5th floor E-Unit nursing staff and especially Linda Murphy. A very special thank you to Mary Brychka for her loving concern and help at our time of sorrow. A very heartfelt thank you to the 9th floor staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for giving such particular attention and care to Mom. Prayer services will be held at St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, Grandview, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17. Funeral Divine Liturgy of the Resurrection will be held at St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, Grandview, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of personal choice. REST IN PEACE, MOM Arrangements entrusted to Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Services.
