ELIZABETH ANN STEELE (nee COLE) With great sadness, Betty Steele passed away peacefully Friday, January 13, 2006 with family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Steele. She will be missed by her two daughters, Susan Lauze (Jacques), Donna Laube (Winfried); her son Charles (Ella); and her six grandchildren, Corey, Kelly, Trevor, Julie, Bryce and Nathaniel; her sister Joyce Dreger (Raymond) and family; and her brother Albert Cole (Nancy Webster Cole); other relatives and friends; and of course, her beloved pet cat Salty. Betty grew up in an era when hard work and determination meant something and she instilled those values into her children and grandchildren. She refused to give in to her illness. Betty lived a modest life. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved her crafts and gardening. She was a significant contributor to her community, volunteering countless hours at the Broadway Optimist Community Centre. Betty treasured time spent with family and friends and loved to travel. She visited the Disney Resorts with some of her children and grandchildren and she enjoyed it immensely. She will best be remembered for her love of anything related to Mickey Mouse. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by the staff from Home Care and the Riverview Health Centre who helped to make her last days comfortable and peaceful. When she became aware of the seriousness of her illness, Mom passed each of her children an envelope with instructions not to open until her death. The last line on each note reads, Take care of each other. The angels will look after me now. At her request, the celebration of her life will be a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
