ROBERT WILLIAM (BOB) DAVIES Bob passed away peacefully on January 14, 2006, three days before his 77th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy (nee Lee); his children, Gail (Jerry), Susan (Raymond), and Rob (Shannon); grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason), Christopher (Daphne), Rebecca, Chad, Nicole, Lindsay and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ethan, Jordan and Kayla. Also left to mourn are brothers, Don (Jan), Jack (Bernice); and sister Lillian; sisters-in-law, Rhoda Davies and Barbara Cochrane (Jim); and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Ethelbert; brothers, Victor, Ted and Jim; sisters, Margaret and Dorothy. Bob came into this world on January 17, 1929 at his family's home in Winnipeg. He grew up in Winnipeg in the Fort Rouge area and worked briefly at Winnipeg Electric before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1948. He met the love of his life Dorothy in 1953 and knew immediately he wanted her for his bride. They were married in 1955. He and Dorothy travelled to many places and made many friends while Bob was in the service, and he had achieved the rank of Master Warrant Officer when he retired to Winnipeg in 1978. His retirement years were wonderful, spent with his wife at their Winnipeg home, on their winter vacations in Phoenix or visiting their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren often saying to Dorothy Look what we started! His favourite place was the family cottage at Grand Beach. It was a place for family and friends to visit and to enjoy a fish fry or a game of cards. In the spring and fall Bob spent much of his time fishing, one of his great joys. He was also a real handyman who would take on any task armed with his tools and his glue. Bob loved the sun and spent many days developing a tan envied by all. Bob was a voracious reader making him the undisputed champion of Trivial Pursuit and a competitor to the best on Jeopardy. His love of reading and his passion for learning was important to him and something that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Bob believed that we should follow the Golden Rule Treat others as you would like to be treated. He lived his life by that motto and developed wonderful relationships with many friends. He was a magnet for children, including those of his nieces and nephews and their friends. Everyone was always welcome at the cottage and many nights were spent laughing around Grandpa's favourite chair. We know he has gone on to a better place and we will cherish our many happy memories. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave., in Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Dr. T. Gwozdecki, Dr. J. Johnston and Erin, Dr. K. Van Ameyde and the staff at Health Sciences for their kindness and support. Also to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Dad. The family would also like to thank all the friends and relatives for their visits and many acts of kindness over the past few weeks. In lieu of flowers donations made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 would be greatly appreciated.
