She was predeceased by her husband Frank; her parents, Alex and Alice Gowler; granddaughter Darla Sue Miller; brothers, Howard and Spencer Gowler; and sister Gladys Gowler. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her son Dennis (Eva) and daughter Myrna (Harley Hansen); granddaughters, Lori (Ron Mark), Donna (Ariel Ilago), grandsons, Jeff Miller (Marlis), Scott Miller (Janet), John Hansen (Jane) and Gordon Hansen; great-grandchildren, Alenna and Grant Mark, Cassidy and Kirsten Miller, Leah, Heidi and Erik Hansen, Carlene and Brandon Ilago; daughter-in-law Glenna Miller; sister Violet Stenson; other faithful family members, Les and Phyllis Miller, Betty Miller, Gladys Evens, Ken and Joan Miller, Hilda Gowler, Randy and Darlene Gowler, Gladys Voigt, Joyce Friesen, Marlene Muir, Darcy, Jessica and Brian Truthwaite, Andy and Connie Henderson; and true friends, Martha Bach, Nel Gundrum, Marie and Bob Costello; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born on July 30, 1912 at the time the family was homesteading near Mulvihill, MB. As a youngster, the family moved to the Poplar Point area where she completed her schooling. She and Frank were married in 1932 and resided in the Elmwood area of Winnipeg. After Frank's retirement from the Winnipeg City Police Force, they moved to a smaller home in St. Vital. Later, after Frank passed away, Dorothy moved to the senior apartment complex at the Fort Garry Place where she enjoyed the wonderful and varied activities. Dorothy worked at Zellers and her special favourite Eatons downtown store. She also worked for a short time in the gift shop in the lobby of the Royal Alexander Hotel where she met several celebrity guests, including the late Bob Hope. She and Frank also worked for the Sheriffs Department for a few years. The family camped at West Hawk Lake for 14 years until Frank and Dorothy personally built their dream cottage at Bird Lake, without the assistance of hydro power. She loved the summers at the lake with family and friends, and was famous for baking her bannock and biscuits. Our Mom, Gram and Gee Gee will be remembered dearly for her laughter, her quirky sayings like Wouldn't that jar ya! which would be heard most often when she rolled a Yahtzee during our endless hours of playing the game, her stunning, long-lashed, hazel eyes, her tender ways and her beautiful soul. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. (between Pembina and Waverley St.) The family would sincerely like to thank the kind and caring staff on East 4 at Deer Lodge Centre including the nurses, healthcare aids, doctors, the hairdresser Sandra, the recreation director Annie, with her constant smile, her roommates, Mary, Mildred and Maxine for their friendship and well wishes. As an expression of sympathy, friends are invited to make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or to a charity of their choice.
