Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN C (BUD) MOONEY 1922 - 2006 On Friday, January 13, 2006, we lost a dear, beloved husband and father. Surrounded by his loving family, Bud Mooney passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents, Harry Mooney and Dorothy Saxon Snell Mooney, and his infant sister Olive. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Isobel; sister Renee McFarlane of Calgary; daughter Valerie Klassen (Henry) of Winnipeg; son Gordon (Barbara) of Edmonton; grandchildren, Matthew (Sonja), Geneva (Tony), Rick, and Sam, Jill and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Thea, Eyvind, and Storm, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born May 21, 1922 in Deloraine, MB. Bud's family moved to Cypress River and then to Winnipeg where Bud attended John M. King and Gordon Bell High School. From 1942 - 1945 he served in the R.C.A.F. as a wireless operator. He joined the finance department of Trans Canada Airlines (later Air Canada), retiring in 1976 as Manager, Interline Accounting. Retirement didn't last long though, as within a year he started a new and very satisfying career with the International Air Transport Association. For almost ten years, he enjoyed this new challenge. He and Isobel travelled frequently, both on business and for pleasure, throughout North America, as well as Greece, France, Switzerland, the Caribbean, the U.K., Hawaii, Fiji, and New Zealand, making new friends at every stop along the way. Bud and Isobel enjoyed their second retirement with a winter home at Palm Harbor, Florida. Over 14 years there, they made many new friends and became involved with the local community. Bud served two terms as Treasurer of the Cypress Point Park Association and during the last year there, organized and published an album and directory of all of the park residents. For the past four years, they spent their winters in Victoria reconnecting with old friends and relatives. But the most beautiful spot in the world, to him, was Wallace Lake. Bud fell in love with Wallace Lake in the early 60's. In 1977, he realized his dream of owning a place there; Bud and Isobel bought a cottage overlooking the lake, which he enthusiastically began to turn into a family gathering place where grandchildren were lovingly welcomed to Grandpa's Cottage . Even after all of his travels, nothing made him as happy and contented as a sunset cocktail cruise on Wallace Lake. Bud was always an eager volunteer, and never turned down a request to get involved. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served two terms as President of the Canukeena Club, an ex-serviceman's organization. He was an avid curler, playing in both the Air Canada Saturday morning league, and later in the Pembina Curling Club. He coached hockey at the Fort Garry Community Club and Little League Baseball for Fort Garry East. In his spare time, Bud relaxed; playing the piano and accordion, strumming his guitar, and working the Sunday crossword puzzle. Bud was an inspiration to us all; a true people person who enjoyed every moment of his wonderful life. He made the world a better place with his smiles, good humour, humility, and kindness. Everybody who knew Bud will miss him deeply. To honour Bud's life, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Kowalski and the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre for their care, exceptional compassion, and sensitivity. As an expression of sympathy, friends are invited to make a donation to the Manitoba Lung Association, or a charity of their choice.
