Doris was predeceased by her husband Wesley Castles in 1984, father John Healing in 1949 and mother Louisa Healing (nee Rosenberg) in 1970. She will be sadly missed by her sister Gladys Hayne (Healing), devoted children son Robert Castles, daughter Janis Castles and grandchildren Jared, Brayden, and Sara, daughter Maureen Castles-Shinnimin, son-in-law John and grandchildren Lauren, Brendan and Taryne. Born on May 26, 1919, Doris was raised in Winnipeg and attended Greenway and General Wolfe Schools. After graduation, she worked at Eaton's Mail Order. She married her loving husband, Wesley, at the beginning of the Second World War, and continued to work at Eaton's while he was overseas for five years. Upon Wesley's return they began their family and made their home on Clifton Street. She lived there for 52 years until she moved to Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Doris loved children and after raising her family, returned to work as a teacher's aide at Cecil Rhodes School until retirement. She was active in the ladies Auxiliary at Emmanuel Baptist Church, her ladies street group, and the West End Senior Centre. Doris was very artistic and enjoyed oil painting. She also liked nature, gardening, dancing and singing and will be remembered at Calvary Place as their Humming Bird . Doris had a kind and gentle nature, a memorable smile and sense of humour. She was a devoted mother and touched the lives of everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff of Calvary Place Personal Care Home for the loving dedication to mom the past four years. A service of remembrance will be held at Calvary Place Nursing Home, 1325 Erin St., on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Henry Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, next to her husband Wesley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Forever in our hearts until we meet again. We love you. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
