ANNE HUCAL (nee MAZUR) Peacefully on January 13, 2006, surrounded by her loved ones, Anne passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 93 years. Anne will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son Ron and daughter-in-law Diane; her brother John; nephew Darrell, all of Diane's family (the Campbell, Grassie, and Steinburg families); dear friends, Walter and Lorraine Lichacz, Helen Senkiw, and many special relatives, friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her husband William and her parents Maria and Kostantyn. Anne was born on June 13, 1912 in Chortkiv, Ukraine. She came to Canada at the age of nine years. Anne was honoured to help raise her younger brother John since her father passed away at an early age. She resided on Herbert Avenue and Windsor Avenue in Elmwood and then moved to Fort Rouge, where she lived for over 50 years. Anne attended Beaver (Elmwood) School and also Lord Selkirk School. She loved to recall the time she worked as a housemaid on Wellington Crescent. Anne also worked at Canada Packers and the Royal Bank. Anne was a longtime member of the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church. Everyone always commented on Anne's sweet nature and her beautiful smile. She always saw the best in everything and everybody. Anne loved to garden and people walking down her street would often stop to admire her beautiful flowers and large vegetable garden. She loved to feed her family and friends and she will always be remembered for her delicious apple pies and for the macaroni lunches she made for all the kids. One of her favourite pastimes was watching her favourite curler, Ron, and for many years she was always present on Saturday afternoons at the Elmwood Hardknocks Curling League and during the week at the Heather Curling Club. In her last few years, she enjoyed her weekly outing to the casino. Ron and Diane would like to sincerely thank Dr. F. Ross for the wonderful care he provided to our mother over the years. We would like to thank the caring, compassionate staff at the Victoria General Hospital. Anne was fortunate to have such kind homecare workers who helped her stay in her home until her recent hospital stay and we are very grateful to them. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, January 19 at 9:30 a.m. also at the Church, Rev. Isadore Dziadyk, OSBM presiding. A luncheon will follow after the service. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Grassie, Brent Grassie, Sean Grassie, Scott Grassie, Walter Lichacz and Mike Lysyk. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CE 501-840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1S1 or please plant a flower for Anne in your garden this summer. If angels were made from molds, our mom would be the perfect one. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
