ANNA BELLA HOUCK After a period of declining health, Anna Houck, 97, passed away at the Golden West Centennial Lodge on January 17, 2006. Anna, the daughter of Bella Kindness and William Hepburn, was born January 31, 1908 in Banff, County of Banff, Scotland. Her brother Willie passed away in his first year. After Anna's father drowned in 1911, she was left with relatives so that her mother could start a new life in Hamiota, Manitoba where she married James Scott. The World war prevented Anna from coming to Canada. Then her mother died in the great flu epidemic. In 1922 James Scott and his daughter Margaret Scott went to Scotland and brought Anna back to Hamiota. Anna has no recollection of her parents. In 1928 Anna married Lloyd Houck in Hamiota. Shortly afterwards they moved to Winnipeg where they resided for the rest of their lives. In 1988 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all their family and grandchildren. Her husband predeceased her in 1992 at the age of 89. Her sister Margaret [Scott] Wareham predeceased her in 1994. Brothers Willie Hepburn and Menzies Scott died at an early age. Anna is survived by her son Frank of Vancouver (his wife Diane is deceased); son Norm of Winnipeg; daughter Marg and her husband Len Jones of Abbotsford; grandchildren Valarie, Janis, Paul, Karen and Kathy; and great grandchildren Tyler, Curtis, Marcus, Jackson, Katelyn and Troy, all of the Vancouver area. Her nephew Scott and nieces Carolyn and Laurie also survive Anna. Anna was a past member of the Ft. Rouge Ladies Curling Club, the Deer Lodge Ladies Curling Club, where she served as president, and the Highlander Ladies Curling Club. Anna and Lloyd were fans of all Manitoba's fine curlers. There is to be no public service. Burial will be private and held at a later date. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca. Special thanks go to the kind and thoughtful staff at the Salvation Army's Golden West Centennial Lodge. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
