Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENA HINTZ (nee BUSS) It is with deep sorrow and regret that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helena Hintz of Winnipeg, formerly of Beausejour, on January 17, 2006 at The Golden Links Lodge. Helena was born on May 4, 1910 in Volhynia, Ukraine. Along with her parents and older brother, the family immigrated to Canada in 1912 taking up residence on a farm in the Golden Bay District east of Beausejour. There, Helena attended school and helped her parents with the many varied tasks associated with farm life. In April, 1927, she was united in marriage to dear Dad, Julius Hintz. This union was blessed with six daughters and two sons. Helen and Julius farmed in the Golden Bay and Brokenhead Districts for 37 years before retiring to Beausejour in 1964. In 1990, they left their familiar surroundings to take up residence at Kirckhoff Gardens in Winnipeg. Helena moved once more in November 2003 to The Golden Links Lodge. A life long adherent of the Lutheran faith, they were active members of the following Lutheran churches through the years, Holy Cross, Golden Bay, St. John's, Greenwald, Zion in Beausejour and Faith in Winnipeg. Helena was predeceased by her beloved husband Julius in 1991; her parents, Michael and Emilie Buss; brothers, Bill, Roy and Rudy; sons in-law Vern Okerlund, Myron Kenyon; and most recently sister in-law Elsie Buss. Helena is survived by and leaves to mourn her children and their spouses, Dorothy Hintz, Olga Okerlund, Helen Tober (Ben), Alfred (Marie), Loreen Kenyon, Edna Otto (Roland), Adeline Kopp (Art) and Elmer (friend Suzie); her 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sisters in-law Lydia and Anna Buss of Beausejour. Despite the good, average and sometimes difficult years of farm life, Mother was always cheerful and humming a tune as she went about her daily labour. She was kind and loving, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Of utmost importance to her were her family and her deep abiding faith in her Dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Even in her advancing years, she continued to keep busy, knitting mittens and socks, making countless quilts, not only for her immediate family but Lutheran World Relief for distribution to Third World countries. The family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at The Golden Links Lodge for their compassionate care. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing will take place 1/2 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Beausejour at 1:30 p.m. where she will be laid to rest beside Julius. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB R2N 1V8 or Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Box 968, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or a charity of one's choice. You can only have one mother, Patient, kind and true No other friend in all the world Will be the same to you. For all her loving kindness She asked nothing in return. Of a face so full of sunshine And a smile for one and all. Sweet Jesus, take this message To our Dear Mother up above, Tell her how much we miss her And give her all our love.
