WILLIAM THOMAS (HOWARD) WELSH -
Date of Passing: Jan 18, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM THOMAS (HOWARD) WELSH 1916 - 2006 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Welsh on January 18, 2006. Howard passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89. Howard was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Dottie); his brother Ted and his brothers-in-law, Robert Powell and Edward Lord. He leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, Kathleen Powell of Winnipeg and his sister Marion Lord of Victoria, BC; his sister-in-law Elaine Welsh of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Born on August 3, 1916, Howard was a life time resident of St. James Assiniboia. His school years were spent at Brittania School. Howard served in Second World War from 1940 to 1946 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. His working years after the war were spent at Ray O Vac where he retired after 35 years of service. Big Howard was a long time member of St. James Anglican Church and served as People's Warden and Secretary-Treasurer of the St. James Cemetery. Howard was a Life Time member of St. James Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Khartum Temple Shrine, Drum and Bugle Corps, St. James Legion #141 and served as a Big Brother to many children for many years. Howard enjoyed the times spent at his cottage that he built at Star Lake with his precious wife Dottie whom he'd been married to for 63 years, but his favourite place was his garage where you were sure to find him when not at work. A heartfelt thank you to friends and neighbours for their care and support over the past few months (especially Jean Allan), which enabled Howard to remain in his home, especially his niece and primary care giver Diane Owens who devoted many months to his care. A big heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Stephensen for his special care and concern over many years. (You were the best in Uncle Howard's book). Thank you to the staff of the Home Palliative Care Unit. Though the time was short, you accomplished so much in providing so quickly all that he needed for his comfort, and for that we are very grateful. A memorial service will be held in his memory on Saturday January 21 at the St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private interment has taken place in St. James Anglican Cemetery. Urn bearer will be Danny Robinson, with honorary pallbearers being his nephews Laurens Storey, Lanny Storey, and special friends Bill Jackson, Arnie Page and Valerie and Gerry Carignan. In lieu of flowers, donations may made in Howard's memory to the St. James Anglican Church, or a charity of your choice. A HEART OF GOLD HAS QUIT BEATING THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
