ANDREW LEGIN October 3, 1909 - January 14, 2006 Andrew Legin died peacefully at Holy Family Personal Care Home. Born in Ukraine, selo Debiwci, Ivano-Frankivs'ke to Paul and Paraska Legin, Andrew came to Canada in 1928 and lived with his Uncle Mike Lapka in Poplarfield, MB. He worked for CPR in many small towns in Saskatchewan until 1944, when the family moved to Winnipeg. Andrew then worked for CNR Express until his retirement in 1974. Andrew and Dorothy Marykuca were married in 1936 in Holy Eucharist Church. He regarded his wife's large family as his own. Together, they raised three daughters - Olive, Yvonne and Nadia. The girls fondly remember the childhood train trips across Canada and to the U.S., family discussions on Sundays after Church, the many trips to the Museum and Symphony, and later the bike rides from their home on Wolseley Avenue, around Wellington Crescent and on to Lindsay Street (with the CN tracks that ran alongside). Andrew is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years - Dorothy, and daughters, Olive Kostyshyn, Yvonne Mudlo (Walter), and Nadia Carrigan (Jim); grandchildren, Vera Nicholson (John), Lydia Fernandes (Americo), Bill of Brampton, ON, Donna Lagace (Larry), Paul Volk (Karen), Donald Volk and Jennifer (Carrigan) Clayton (James) of Cochrane, AB. Additionally, he is survived by great-grandchildren, Emily and Roman Nicholson, Adam and Daniel Fernandes, Philip, Marc and Renee Lagace, Nathan and Matthew Volk and Nora Clayton. Andrew was predeceased by his parents, sister Ann, and son-in-law Roman Kostyshyn. Uncle Henry , as he was fondly called, would have liked to say Good-bye to all his nieces and nephews. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 23 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Church, Munroe Ave. at Watt St. with Fr. M. Winn officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, especially on the third floor, for Andrew's care the last five years and Dr. T. Babick, who looked after Dad for 30 years. Flowers gratefully declined. A donation may be made in Andrew's memory to the charity of one's choice. To my three daughters: All three of you have gone from being my beautiful little babies to three beautiful women. I have loved you, nurtured you and walked beside you through all your lives. You have all been so good to me, there are too few words to explain the feelings. You have been there for me as my daughters and companions, and I am so proud of each of you. Goodbye my family, my life has passed. I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me but courage take, Always continue to love each other, for my sake, For those you love don't go away, They walk beside you every day. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
