Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANA MARIA MARTINS CARDOSO NUNES Peacefully at the age of 85, on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Maples Personal Care Home, Mom passed away. She will be lovingly remembered by her son John, daughter-in-law Muriel and grandchildren Dillon and Kaitlin. She is also survived by her sisters Laura and Jena Martins living in Portugal. She was predeceased by her husband Joao, father Antonio Martins, and mother Josepha Cardoso Martins, sister Orlanda Sexias, and brother Antonio Texira Martins. Ana was born in Castro Daire, Portugal on May 13, 1920. She worked as a pharmacist aide in Lisbon, Portugal where she met Joao and married him on September 18, 1954. She followed Joao to Canada in 1959 in search of a better life. She was very involved in the Portuguese community and was always willing to help out any new immigrants during their difficult transition to living in Canada in any way she could, often serving as an interpreter to those who could speak little English. Ana's greatest joy was spending time with her son John and daughter-in-law Muriel along with her grandchildren Dillon and Kaitlin. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their care and compassion. Also to the many friends who meant so much to her. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 23 between the hours of 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St., Winnipeg. Interment will follow immediately after the ceremony at Assumption Cemetery 3990 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Tony Neves Sr., Tony Neves Jr., Narciso Neves, Fernando Almeida, Manuel Guerra and Manuel Matias. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ana's memory to the Heart Stroke Foundation. Rest in eternal peace Mom and Grandma, you will be forever remembered in our hearts.
