Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGH MACKINNON In loving memory of Hugh MacKinnon, who passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Hugh will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sue; sons, Hugh and Michael (Kat), and daughters, Kerri (Jason), Maghan (Dennis) and sister Shirley (Richard). A loving and caring husband, wonderful father, beloved brother and devoted teacher, Hugh dedicated his life to those he loved, and for this, received much love in return. He was born on March 20, 1930 in Quebec City, QC to Hugh and Ann MacKinnon of Glace Bay, NS. Here he was raised along with his younger siblings, Robert and Shirley. As a young man, Hugh spent several years flying Thunderbirds in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Captain. He later went on to attend McGill University where he was not only a star athlete in football, basketball, hockey and baseball, but also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. During his years in Montreal, Hugh began his life as a dad with the births of his sons, Hugh and Michael, along with his wife Annette. After the tragic loss of his wife, Hugh continued teaching and he enjoyed many Montreal Canadiens games with his sons. Hugh went onto Northeastern University where, while studying for his Masters Degree, he met Sue. In 1976, they married and settled in Montreal. Three years later they relocated to Wolsung, South Korea. Here Hugh spent four happy years, accompanied not only by his family and many newfound friends and students, but also by the new additions of his daughters, Kerri and Maghan. The next journey brought Hugh and family to Leaf Rapids, MB. Here he dedicated nine years of his life to not only the school but to the entire community. Working tirelessly and faithfully as not only a husband and father, but also as a popular and committed teacher. Hugh's teaching also brought him to Winnipegosis and Cross Lake, until retiring and settling in Winnipeg. Here Hugh took the most pleasure, as he has his entire life, from doing for others. Hugh's love for teaching was apparent as although retired, he continued to work as a guest teacher at several local high schools. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations can be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, in Hugh's name. In addition, a basket will be set up for those who wish to share written memories of Hugh with the family. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME 4000 PORTAGE AVENUE 885-9715
